Hey everyone,
I ran into some "technical difficulties" while trying to re-do this blog. So now you can view my ALL NEW blog design over at its new site HERE. All of the same posts are there, plus some new pages about my Etsy shop, handmade giveaways, and more. I couldn't figure out how to switch my followers over, so if you know how to do that, please let me know! Or you can just go over and start following it instead of this one ( which I will eventually delete) so you can get my updates! Thanks so much for being such a great blog audience! I can't believe I got over 200 followers in only a few months!!

Changes are Coming!

I am so excited about some new changes that will be coming to this blog in the next few weeks! First of all, I am going to do a total blog- revamp to make it look more professional. Then I will be expanding the content to include more than just handmade items. I hope to add more recipes, natural beauty tips and hints ( and recipes for making your own natural skincare for little cost!) and possible some tutorials. If you have any ideas of some other things you might like to see me post about, let me know! I will consider all requests. =)

Gift Baskets?

Lately I've trying to come up with some new ideas for my Etsy shop. I sell a lot of "small" things, but was tossing around the idea of putting together some themed gift "baskets" for purchase. Some ideas include a kitchen theme, with fruit magnets, possibly some coasters made out of designer fabric, a pair of food themed earrings or ring, etc. I'm also thinking about themes like flowers, bakery, girls night out, etc.
I thought they would be a neat gift idea, where everything was together and it made a complete gift.

So I need you to vote on my sidebar poll. Would you be interested in buying gift baskets? If so, what other themes would you like to see?

How do you like my new Tea Party line in my Etsy shop? This is the first product, and I plan to make many more! Tea sets were the very first things I added to my Etsy shop when it opened up less than a year ago. I sold all of them within the next few months, then for some reason never added more. I recently felt like I had come into a rut of what to add to my Etsy shop. I love variety, and felt that my shop needed something unique and unlike other things I sold.
So I decided to create more tea sets! There can be so much variety and colors in tea sets, and I felt that this was what I needed for my shop.

When did you first become interested in your craft?

Caroline: I first started making jewelry after my daughter, Samantha, was diagnoses with epilepsy. She had been injured during her first seizure, which happened at school. When she finally returned to school, I would jump every time the phone rang for fear it was bad news. I needed to take my mind off worrying and so I started to make jewelry. My husband encouraged me to start New Hope Beading. I tell the story of the shop's name in my shop profile HERE

What inspires you to craft?

Caroline: I often get inspired from the raw materials. When I get a strand of stones I need to "live with it" for a while until I see what it wants to become.

What is your favorite thing to make?

Caroline: I really enjoy making anything custom order. plus I make a lot of Mother's bracelets and Pea Pod necklaces. I always feel like I am part of someone's special surprise, especially when they are gifts.
I will be expanding my custom order lines VERY soon to include hand-stamped custom order fine silver (PMC). I am so excited about this I can hardly wait! I have been sketching for days.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself or your craft?

Use colored paper! There are so many lovely scrapbooking papers out there for a very reasonable price. They are not only great for card-making or scrapbooking, but if they aren't to "busy" you can use them as backgrounds for your Etsy items!
Simple, complimentary colors work great, and give your items some "pop", unlike a plain white background might give your items.

Springtime is the perfect time to take your camera out and snap a few pictures of the flowering trees and springtime flowers. Even if you are an amateur photographer (like me!), you can still have fun capturing the beauty around you. I find by holding my camera at different angles ( up, down, angled to the sides) you can capture more interesting photos than by just holding the camera straight on.

When did you become interested in your craft?

Pennie: I've been interested in my craft all my life. It's very important to me and I love to design and create new things all the time. There is no end to my ideas! I say to people who ask me about how I feel when I create, that it means as much to me as a beautiful flower needs sun and water!

What is your favorite thing to make?

Pennie: Oh, that is a really tough question since I can't say just one thing.
What I can say, though, is that I love to make my special Gourmet Candy and my unique designed jewelries and that my passion is so strong for both!

What does your shop offer?

How would you describe your shop?

Pennie: My shop is a girls best friend! What more can a girl ask for then gourmet chocolate and jewelry, right? My shop is also the perfect gift shop for any occasion!

What age range enjoys your products the most?

Pennie: I would say any age really, since there is gourmet candy for both children and adults. My jewelry is perfect for women of all ages and I do make jewelry for little girls also.

Is there anything else you would like to tell my readers about yourself or your craft?

Pennie: I have always been making a lot of different crafts. I have been painting in oil and water colors, etc. I make cute little items in clay and I use to have two businesses when I lived in Sweden, a Beauty Salon and my creations on the side. Since I had a Beauty Salon, I had a few skin care product lines of my own too, making all kinds of goodies for the face and body, including make-up. I also love to cook healthy foods and bake healthy goodies. I say "YES" to organic!

I would like to say Thank You to Samantha for having me and my shop reviewed here at her wonderful blog! This was so much fun and I am very grateful!

A delicious and light summer cake, super fast to make and disappears even faster!

Jello Poke Cake

1 box white cake mix
1 package of your favorite jello ( I like strawberry flavor)
whipped cream or topping

Make cake as package directs. Once the cake has cooled, poke holes 1/2 - 1 inch apart using a skewer or large pronged fork. Make jello as package directs. Pour jello over cooled cake. Chill cake for 30 minutes. At this point you can either top it with whipped topping and serve, or leave in refrigerator overnight, then top with whipped topping before serving.

This week's featured Etsian is Jurate from JujaCrafts!
I really enjoyed reading her profile, which gave information about herself, and the meaning of her name, which is Lithuanian.

When did you first become interested in your craft?

Jurate: All my life I have been interested in various crafts. Ever since I was a little girl I liked to knit and sew clothes from my dolls and make my own purses and many cute little things.
After graduating I worked as a sales manager for a clothing company. During that time my schedule was very tight and I had no time for crafting.
When I moved to the US I got more spare time and I started to craft again. First I got interested in wool felting and started to design jewelry, flower brooches, and other accessories. I participated in craft shows and fairs, while writing articles in local newspapers.
Later I learned to work with polymer clay, decoupage techniques, etc.

What do you offer in your shop?

Jurate: Currently I'm fully into fabric flowers. Mostly I make flower appliques, but I also create brooches, hair accessories, jewelry, and flowers for home decor

What age range do you think enjoys your products?

Jurate: I know that most of my customers are brides or moms of little girls. So the age range would probably be around 25-30 years old.

What is your favorite thing to make?

Jurate: I equally love making each item. I love making beautiful and unique brooches and hair accessories. I enjoy creating things for home decor, and I love creating my Shibori bubble scarves. Or thinking about something absolutely new and fulfilling my ideas. The only thing I don't like is that there are only 24 hours in a day and it's not enough for me to do everything I planned to do!

Is there anything else you would like to tell my readers about yourself / products?

Jurate: I really love what I do and I want my customers to be happy and satisfied after visiting my shop. I'd describe my little shop as a flower garden. There are flowers blooming all year long and there is now rain, wind, and absolutely nothing bad. =)

I want everyone who visits my shop to feel joy and happiness, take a walk, smell the flowers, and take a little piece of that to their home.

When did you first become interested in photography?

Lesley: Ever since I saved up for my first kodak instamatic at about seven or eight it's had a grip on me! It's like having the power to freeze time and I'll never get over the magic! My first subjects were my pets and I still have those faded dog eared snapshots!

What is your favorite thing to photograph?

Lesley: I love photographing anything, but in particular macro or close up work interest me- there is a whole tiny world out there that we often don't take time to see.

What kind of market is your shop geared towards?

Lesley: I think it appeals to people who enjoy the colour in life and who love the natural world.

What are your inspirations?

Lesley: Everything!! Sometimes I think I'm living life through a lens! Of course I am also inspired by other photographers and I love browsing thorough magazines and Flixr.

Is there anything else you would like to tell our readers?

Lesly: Whether you use a camera or not, take time everyday, no matter how busy, to look around you and find something beautiful or funny or interesting to look at. I promise you you'll find it!

In case you missed it, the feature seller on the Etsy page today was PetitePlat, an adorable shop based near Paris, France. This shop is just full of tiny treats made from polymer clay. And the intricate detail is amazing! I work with polymer clay, too, so I can understand a little bit about the time that can go into creations like these. And these creations just fill me with awe!

I could spend a lot of time browsing through this shop, and I know you could, too!
So to give you just a mini bite of these treats, I've included some pictures for you to enjoy.

When did you become interested in your craft?

Cheryl: I started crafting when my husband was posted overseas for a one-year work assignment and I was all alone back in 2005.

What is your favorite things to make?

Cheryl: It has to be earrings, because I love experimenting with different designs, colors and materials.

How would you describe your shop?

Cheryl: Fun, quirky, whimsical and colorful... full of surprises

What age range is your shop geared towards?

Cheryl: Actually, I have quite a wide range of products that are suitable for all age groups from 20-50. It all depends on individual taste and perception.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself or your craft?

Cheryl: I may be new to Etsy, but I have been selling my jewellery on consignment to customers locally in the Asian region for almost 5 years. To date, I have sold more than a thousand pieces. Hopefully I will have similar results here at Etsy!
I love to craft and hope to do this full-time one day.

Kelly: Since childhood I've always been drawn to the arts. I discovered my love of sewing with the birth of my 1st daughter. It started with many, many baby quilts and has now shifted into women's accessories.

How would you describe your shop?

Kelly: Fabric fascinates me. It's so satisfying to create something beautiful out of a small scrap of upholstery fabric. These one of a kind pieces inspire me to look forward to new ideas or designs- like my new fabric flowers.

What age range is your shop geared towards?

Kelly: My shop has something for everyone- one of a kind remnant wristlets, bags adorned with fabric flowers for weddings and other special occasions and appliqued tote bags to cart your belongings in.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself or your craft?

Kelly: I'm a stay-at-home mom of 3 little girls ages 2,4, and 6. The majority of my sewing takes place during nap time or in the evenings. When I do work on pieces during the day, the girls love to "help". They have their own fabric box and my 6 year old just got her own sewing machine.

Today's feature Etsian of the week is Didi from handarts!

Didi was 7 years old when she won an international artist competition with a simple hammered rose pendant. She has loved making jewelry ever since, and makes a lovely variety of necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. She enjoys making bracelets the most, and has several very pretty ones in her online Etsy shop.
Didi comes from Eastern Europe, Bulgaria, and believes this is what influences her to create jewelry that follows the look of "old-style jewelry that resembles the Rembrandt Era and a unique cottage style".
Didi describes her jewelry as "Unique, Modern, and Happy", and I totally agree!

In our current age of e-mail and texting, hand-written notes have seemed to just vanish. I mean really, when was the last time you got a hand-written note written on pretty stationary or a unique card?
There is just something so special about opening up your mail and receiving a letter that a friend took time to write out.

Today's featured Etsian is Stacey from TheMonkeyFactory!
Stacey makes each monkey in her home-based shop in West Sussex, England. Each monkey is hand-stitched, making each unique and one-of-a-kind.
Stacey says that her monkeys would make great gifts for all ages, and she likes to consider this while she in making them. She uses a variety of eyes to create different personalities for her monkeys. Some use buttons, while others have felted eyes, which are safe for the little ones.
I love how she includes a name and Bio for each monkey, which I think is a unique and nice touch. Stacey allowed me to pick the pictures for this feature, so let me introduce you to the monkeys I picked:

This is Charlie. He has already sold, but I couldn't resist showing this one. The colors would be perfect for a little boy!

And this is little Paige. Isn't she adorable?? I love how Stacey used "fuzzy" socks to create a whole new dimension on the traditional sock monkey. I think it was a great idea!

And lastly, Alucio. Isn't she so bright and cheery?

Today I was browsing through one of my favorite baking sites called
Baking Bites

I love the delicious array of sweet breads, muffins, cookies, and cakes displayed here! Even if you are not into sweets, this website covers that as well with a delicious variety of savory soups and main dishes to balance out the sweets.
Another great part about this website is the scrumptious array of pictures for every recipe. I like to have an idea of what my baked good is going to look like when it is done! =)

Your kids ( or yourself!) would be delighted to see one of the below recipes gracing the breakfast table next Saturday.
